1. The Promise Begins

When Adam and Eve sinned because of the serpent’s deceit, God promised enmity between the serpent and the woman, and between his seed and hers. The book identifies Christ as the promised Seed of the Woman.

2. A Beloved Son
Abraham’s Sacrifice · Genesis 22 · Book page 27 - The Angel of the Lord Preventing Abraham from Sacrificing his Son Isaac by Pieter Lastman (1616)
Abraham is told to offer his beloved son. At the decisive moment, the Angel of the Lord stops him and a ram is provided in Isaac’s place. The book then points forward to Jesus, the beloved Son, offered for the sins of the world.
Is this only Abraham’s story, or does it point beyond him?
3. Look and Live

In the wilderness, those who looked upon the raised serpent lived. The book connects this image with Christ’s own words that He must be lifted up.
Why would salvation be pictured as looking in faith?
4. Who Is Speaking?

Isaiah speaks of the One who is first and last, whose hand founded the earth, and then says: “And now the Lord God has sent Me, and his Spirit…”
And who do you imagine is speaking?
5. He Is Coming

Malachi speaks of a messenger who will prepare the way. Centuries later, John the Baptist appears in the wilderness: “Prepare the way of the Lord.”
